A Harry Potter story
I have been obsessed with Harry Potter…for the past 20 years. It has been a large part of my life, personally, academically and professionally. Most of my friends are from Harry Potter Conventions. I finished my MA thanks to a dissertation on Harry Potter. I was published in academic journals because of Harry Potter. To say I love Harry is an understatment.
Bit (my kiddo) recently turned 9. We have slowly been reading out loud the Harry Potter series for her first time (within her memory, to be fair I read it to her after she was born). She had seen Philosopher’s Stone and deemed it TOO SCARY. So she wouldn’t touch it.
I don’t know how I managed to convince her to let me read the series, but I did. It has been our nightly routine for the past 2 months. We’re on Goblet of Fire, and half way through.
It is almost as good as me reading the series the first time. I can see in her the excitement I felt first reading the books. She is enthralled. She sits trying to make predictions after every chapter. I was so excited to share this with her, but also nervous, what if she hated it. I am so grateful she doesn’t.
I will never get to read the series with fresh eyes, and I am now jaded due to JK Rowlings politics and some crappy decisions she has made. However, seeing my…
